My Little Love Bug

Kiki got some adorable lady bug leggings for Christmas, however, she didn't have a shirt to match! I finally got around to making her one today.

Her favorite pose lately:

I went to Goodwill and picked up a plain red shirt (yep, that's where hubby and I went for our date night!) and added some black heat transfer. But it wasn't quite enough.

(Sorry about the horrible pictures. Yesterday it was 70 and sunny, today it is back to being 30 and dark. Also, it seems I have to use the flash to get a non-fuzzy pic of this busy lady):

I added a few little bows on the sleeves and ladybug and then some ric-rac to the bottom. Viola! Another adorable V-Day outfit!

Linky Fridaze #3

It's time for another party!

What have you been working on this week?

I'd love to see it all!

But first, a few features from last week:

I'm really digging these Ballard-inspired pillows from Sassy Style Interior Redesign. I was thinking of making something similar myself soon!:

Next is this Crayon Apron by Seven Sisters. It truly is the Cutest!:

And I HAVE to feature this Crocheted Valentine's Wreath by Two Butterflies. It inspired to make my own with yarn:

Sew Retro: More Heat Transfer!

I think I'm a wee bit addicted to this vinyl heat transfer stuff. Here's my new shirt:

I Lost My Heat Transfer Virginity!

I was incredibly intimidated to try out vinyl heat transfer, but I did it! And it felt so good...

I ordered some black, pink and green vinyl from Specialty Graphics. I found they had the most reasonable shipping prices. I will definitely use them again, especially now that I'm addicted!

I wanted to make us some custom shirts for Disney World. They have a sort of royalty/Valentine theme. Here's mine:

Here's Kiki's:

Finn (in typical Finn fashion) refused to wear the shirt unless it was orange. In fact, when I showed him the finished shirt, he said, "But it's supposed to be ALL orange." I gave myself a lesson in futility by trying to explain to him that if it was all orange, it wouldn't say anything on it. It's not very Valentine-ish, but whatev:

I haven't made my hubby's yet, but it'll match Finn's, with the words "King of the Castle."

Here's the back of all of the shirts:

I even made some matching car bags for the trip! I love those jersey knit sheets from Target and they always come with a little carrying bag that I keep:

This was SO easy to do! I'm sure I'll be making more!

(More) Valentine's Stuff & Say It On the Wall Discount for You!

If you like to craft and decorate (which I assume is why you're here), then you probably love vinyl, right? Me too. Which is why I love Say It On the Wall. Not only do they have tons of great vinyl products, but they also have pictures of each to help inspire you on how to use them.

For example, my Valentine mailboxes. They are kinda exactly like the ones on the website...but they were just so cute on there that I had to recreate them.

I ordered my vinyl (it shipped quick too!), found some V-Day mailboxes at Target for $1, and hot glued a little ribbon on the edge. Easy!

I think I'll gift this one to Finn's teacher on V-Day--with a few gift certificates inside!

And I'm excited to say that Say It On the Wall is offering my readers 30% all Valentine-themed products through the month of February. Just use the code FAST30 at checkout!

Enjoy, and I'd love to see what you create! Make sure you come back and link it up on Linky Fridaze!

Linky Fridaze #2

It's time for another linky! My party last week was so much fun. Thanks to everyone who linked up and showed me their awesome talent!

Now for a few features:

I can't get over this amazing stenciled wall by Laurie at House to Your Home. She must have a lot of patience and a very steady hand! It turned out beautiful!:

I currently have this Anthro-inspired shirt redo printed out and hanging on my inspiration board. I have the perfect shirt for this project! It's from Emily at Domestic Deadline:

Ashley from A {Blonde's} DIY Life made these amazing coral and navy pillows. I think they would look perfect in my parents nautical living room!:

Great job ladies! Please grab a button:

I love my Silhouette, BUT....

The only issue I've had so far with my Silhouette is the cutting mats. It wasn't even a week before they lost their tackiness and my paper was shifting. Which is kinda a major pain since then you have to try again. But I think I've found a solution.

I just use my Elmer's permanent glue dot runner on the edges on the back side of the paper before putting it on my cutting mat. If I'm cutting a really large sheet of paper, I might run a little glue in the middle too. It works really well! Just make sure you pull off your paper as soon as you are done cutting. Otherwise the glue will adhere and you'll end scraping paper off your mat.

I just made a countdown calendar for our trip to Disney World, and if I didn't have the glue dots, I know my little circles and numbers would have been a mess!

I made sure to grab some Toy Story stickers so that we can cover up the numbers as we count down.

My kids are really excited about the trip, but they just don't seem to understand that it's nearly a month away. I hope this countdown helps!

Love Boat

Snow Day!

We spent the morning making the Love Boat from the latest edition of Family Fun magazine. It turned out cute!

Mom & Daughter Shabby Ruffle Hairclips

Two Kiki posts in one day!

Elizabeth over at Sew Chatty did a tutorial on how to make a Shabby Ruffle Hairclip last week, and I thought it would be cute to make one for Kiki and one of her ruffle headbands for me!

Kiki's Valentine

Really, this isn't a valentine, but it's appropriate for Valentine's Day, don't you think?

One day, my daughter told me she was scared of this picture, hanging in her room:

Did I mention she's 2? She's "scared" of a lot of stuff. So I took it down. As I was laying in bed that night, I started thinking about new ways I could re-use the frame and matting. (Side note: Don't you notice that the best ideas come while laying in bed, trying to go to sleep? It's really the Golden Hour). It came to me that I should made a fabric picture out of the same BEAUTIFUL Lakehouse fabrics I used on her bunting.

However, that picture was professionally framed. It was a real bear to take apart. When I finally ripped it from the frame, I realized that the print was permanently attached to the matting. Scratch that idea.

So I went with a new frame. Actually, a re-purposed frame that my hubby brought me. I used acrylic paint to paint the shiny surface, but it did not turn out. I decided to sand it down and start over, but I ended up sort of liking the sanded, shabby look. So I kept it.

I used my reverse applique method to cut out and attach the letters and heart. I keep thinking I should add some sort of stitching to it, but I haven't decided where yet.

I love it! It goes great in her room, and I think it pretty much sums up exactly how I feel about my little Kiki :)

 Here's my little munchkin:

AND, I bought MORE Lakehouse fabric (sorry about all the caps, I'm just really excited about it!) to make her a new quilt! I haven't cut them yet, I'm still in the hugging and staring phase.

Fun With Frames

My hubby works for a bakery and he's been bringing me all sorts of goodies lately. I'm not talking the sweet, chocolate-filled kind. I mean leftovers. Leftover ribbon, leftover boxes, leftover frames. All things that the company has discontinued using. It's awesome.

He brought me one the other day that was a good color for the kitchen. So I made this:

I am in love with the Early Bird fabric line from Cosmo Cricket and while I was shopping etsy for it one day, I found these lovely scrapbook tags instead. I didn't really know what to do with them, but they were cheap, so I snatched them up!
When hubby brought home this frame, I knew I had found my project:

Aren't they cute? Double-sided too:

The frame was a bit roughed-up, so I took a piece of sandpaper to it, just to make sure it looks intentionally scratchy:

I used spray adhesive to tack down my tags and flowers. Then I adhered it to somem leftover corkboard peices:

I used the cork so that I could put some pins in the tags (so that they'd look specimin-like):

I think it's a nice way to dress up the white space!

That's not the only framed project I've been working on though. I re-made an old, ugly corkboard into a new inspiration board for my sewing table:

I got the idea from Tatertots & Jello.

I will be linking up to these great parties this week! And don't forget to come back on Friday and link up anything you've been working on too!
